I never put "metabolize" and "art" in the same sentence until a few days ago. Now I know why I ache when I don't create — and why I don't think about a piece once it's done. How do you metabolize your life?
What a cool way to think about your "why"! I'm traveling at the moment and sadly don't have any of my creative supplies with me, but that's not stopping me from looking around the room trying to figure out what I can make, anyway. :-) Thanks for the inspiration!
Metabolize. What a fantastic word for thinking with. I will enjoy pondering this writing as I go about my day today. I love that you included the example of your friend and how she metabolizes through community. Now I’m thinking about the people I love and how this frame helps me know them better, too.
Erika, it is amazing how one reframe of a word can literally change an entire perspective one has had for years. I get so excited when that happens. And you made a really great point, "Now I’m thinking about the people I love and how this frame helps me know them better, too."
Thanks, I feel the same way about creating. I feel like it is because it requires you to be in the present moment of flow. No where else. I am glad this resonated with you. Now go make something :)

Excellent post, Jolene!
I love the metabolize metaphor and the painting!
When I look back at my career and life I think the only time I have truly felt alive is when I was creating!
Thank you for this!
