Living the Dream… But Whose?
How we walked away from the script and built our own
“Wouldn’t it be cool if we were the first people to house-sit our way around the world?”
That sentence changed everything.
At the time, we were both working in film.
Long hours.
Exhausting schedules.
Constantly saying:
“Living the dream.”
Until one day, Patrick said:
“Yeah… but whose?”
That question landed.
Hard.
Because the truth was—
We weren’t living ours.
So we did something about it.
We downsized.
Packed up.
And started saying yes to something else.
Our first international house sit was in Ireland.
We thought we were getting a quiet place.
We got:
18 chickens
10 ducks
A dog
A cat we weren’t told about
And a completely different way of living.
We weren’t tourists.
We were inside people’s lives.
Inside their homes.
Their routines.
Their worlds.
We became locals everywhere we went.
We called ourselves: The Globe Squatters. Two artists, on a little adventure, house-sitting our way around the world. (I came up with that name, of course!)
One idea.
No map.
That experiment turned into:
A lifestyle
A story
A body of work
And a life that felt like ours
And then…
Everything changed.
